Specialist Dementia Care in a Safe, Single-Storey Home

Compassionate support designed to reduce anxiety and maintain identity in the heart of Airth.

What is Dementia Care at Airthrey?

Safe, Secure, and Supportive.

A diagnosis of dementia changes things for the whole family, but it does not mean the end of a happy, fulfilling life. At Airthrey Care Home, we specialise in supporting individuals living with Alzheimer’s, Vascular Dementia, and other memory-related conditions.

Our home is uniquely suited for dementia care. Being entirely single-storey, Airthrey offers a calm, barrier-free environment. We focus on what your loved one can do, not what they can't, helping them retain their identity, dignity, and independence for as long as possible.

Respite & Short-Stay Care

Our flexible respite stays provide a welcoming, short-term home for recovery after an illness or to give family carers a well-earned break. Guests enjoy full access to our care, activities, and facilities.

An Environment Designed for Clarity and Calm.

At Airthrey, we believe that the right environment can significantly reduce anxiety and confusion. From our barrier-free, single-storey layout to our specialist staff training, every aspect of our home is designed to help residents feel safe, capable, and valued.

24-Hour Medical Supervision

Our single-storey layout is a huge benefit for dementia care. It eliminates the anxiety of stairs and lifts, allowing residents to wander safely and independently between their rooms and the social areas.

Sensory Spaces & Gardens

Access to fresh air is vital for reducing agitation. Our secure, landscaped gardens are easily accessible from the lounges, offering a safe loop for walking and sensory plants to stimulate memory and calm the mind.
Reminiscence Therapy
We use life history work to keep memories alive. From old photographs to music sessions in 'The Wee Hub', we create moments of connection that help residents feel grounded and valued.
Meaningful Activities
Boredom can lead to distress. Our dedicated activities team runs a daily programme tailored to cognitive ability - including music therapy, gentle exercise, and baking - to keep minds active and engaged.
Dementia-Friendly Dining
We understand that dining can be stressful. We offer 'Show Plates' so residents can see and choose their food, and our chefs prepare finger foods and texture-modified meals to support independent eating with dignity.
Specialist Staff Training
Our team receives specific training in dementia care. We understand the unique communication challenges and behavioural changes that can occur, and we respond with patience, validation, and kindness.

Expert Support for Every Stage

Dementia is not a single condition; it is a complex set of symptoms that affects everyone differently. Our nursing and care teams are experienced in managing the distinct challenges of various forms of dementia, ensuring that your loved one receives a care plan that is as unique as they are.

Alzheimer’s Disease

he most common form of dementia. We support residents through the gradual changes in memory and cognitive function, using clear signage and familiar routines to reduce confusion.

Vascular Dementia

Often associated with stroke or circulation issues. Our single-storey home is perfect for those who may have physical mobility issues alongside their cognitive needs.

Lewy Body Dementia

We understand the specific challenges of Lewy Body, including fluctuations in alertness and movement. Our team provides a calm, steady environment to manage these symptoms safely.

Frontotemporal Dementia

This can affect personality and behaviour. Our staff are trained to look past the behaviour to the person inside, offering non-judgmental support and emotional regulation

Mixed Dementia

Many residents live with more than one type of dementia. We build a personalised care plan that addresses the unique combination of symptoms your loved one is experiencing.

Late-Stage & Advanced Dementia

As dementia progresses, care needs often become more complex. Our 24-hour nursing team provides high-level clinical support, focusing on comfort, sensory connection, and absolute dignity during the advanced stages of the condition.

Life with Dementia at Airthrey

At Airthrey, we believe that feelings remain even when memories fade. Our goal is to fill every day with positive feelings.

Socialising in 'The Wee Hub': Our pub-style lounge is a familiar, non-clinical setting where residents can enjoy a drink and a chat, triggering comforting memories of social life.

Music & Movement: We know the power of music to unlock memories. Our regular sing-alongs and visiting entertainers are a highlight of the week.

Quiet Comfort: For those who prefer peace, our sensory quiet areas provide a gentle space to relax away from the hustle and bustle.

We adapt the environment to the person, ensuring they feel safe, understood, and at home.

There is an extensive range of activities to suit all capabilities and I have accompanied my father to many of these, which he has enjoyed. The surroundings are beautiful and there is always tea, coffee and soft drinks available to visitors.

I have seen a truly remarkable team of people at work. They have put my mother's well-being at the heart of everything they do. Protocols are followed, but the extra mile every member of staff goes to is special.

My mother feels safe, happy and content here and has nothing but praise for all the staff. Since the family live in England it gives us peace of mind to know that she is being well cared for.

The home was immaculate and very fresh. The staff went above and beyond to ensure my husband had an enjoyable and relaxing stay. His words at the end of his stay were that it was 'more like a hotel than a care home.' We would most definitely use them again.
