Supporting Scotland’s Older People, Together

As Scotland’s population ages, the importance of strong, compassionate support for older people has never been greater. Across the country, charities, communities and care providers play a vital role in ensuring later life is lived with dignity, connection and purpose.

At the start of 2026, Meallmore reaffirmed its commitment to this shared responsibility with a charitable donation to Age Scotland, one of the country’s leading organisations supporting older people and their families. The donation reflects not only financial support, but a deep alignment of values, purpose and mission.

Every year, Meallmore selects a charity that matters to its residents, colleagues and wider communities. For 2025, Age Scotland was chosen by colleagues across the organisation as the charity whose work most closely reflects the values Meallmore stands for.

Why Age Scotland Matters

Age Scotland plays a critical role in improving the lives of older people across the country. Through advice services, friendship and connection programmes, advocacy and campaigning, the organisation supports people at every stage of later life. Its work addresses some of the most pressing challenges facing older people today, including loneliness and social isolation, access to reliable information and advice, support for families and unpaid carers, and influencing policy on issues that affect later life.

At its heart, Age Scotland exists to ensure older people are valued, connected and able to live well, regardless of circumstances. These aims closely mirror Meallmore’s own commitment to supporting quality of life, independence and wellbeing for residents in its care.

A Moment of Community at Mearns House

The £3,000 donation was formally presented at a special gathering held at Mearns House Care Home in Newton Mearns, bringing together residents, colleagues and family members in a shared moment of celebration.

The presentation was made to Katherine Crawford, CEO of Age Scotland, and Siobhan Cameron, Corporate Fundraiser, in an environment that reflected the very values both organisations champion: warmth, inclusion and community.

Residents and families enjoyed drinks and nibbles as they came together to mark the occasion, reinforcing the importance of shared experiences and collective impact.

A Partnership Rooted in Shared Values

Speaking at the event, Meallmore CEO Cillian Hennessey highlighted the natural alignment between the two organisations.

He shared how pleased Meallmore was to support Age Scotland, noting that the charity is close to the hearts of colleagues across the organisation. He emphasised that Age Scotland provides vital services to older people, their families and carers, while also campaigning and influencing on the issues that matter most to later life.

Both organisations share a clear vision: ensuring older people are valued, connected and supported to enjoy a good quality of life.

For Meallmore, charitable giving is not a standalone gesture. It is part of a broader commitment to social responsibility, community connection and advocacy for older people across Scotland.

Impact Beyond the Donation

For Age Scotland, the donation represents tangible support that enables real-world impact. Katherine Crawford explained how contributions like this help the charity reach more people across Scotland.

She highlighted that donations support essential services, ensuring more older people can access information, advice and friendship through lifeline support services.

Behind every donation are thousands of conversations, moments of reassurance and connections that help older people feel less alone and more supported.

Meallmore’s Role in Scotland’s Care Landscape

Meallmore currently operates 27 care homes across Scotland, supporting elderly residents, adults with mental health needs, and adults with learning or physical disabilities. With additional homes in development, including Pitfodels Wood Care Home in Aberdeen, Meallmore continues to expand its reach while maintaining a strong focus on quality and community.

Beyond providing care, Meallmore sees itself as part of a wider ecosystem that includes families, charities, health services and local communities. Supporting organisations like Age Scotland strengthens that ecosystem and ensures older people receive support both inside and outside care settings.

Choosing Charity Through Colleague Voice

One of the most important aspects of Meallmore’s annual charitable donation is how the recipient is chosen. Rather than being a top-down decision, charities are selected by colleagues across the organisation.

This approach ensures charitable giving reflects the lived experiences of those working most closely with residents and families, reinforcing Meallmore’s values of inclusion, recognition and engagement.

Looking Ahead: Continuing to Make a Difference

As 2026 begins, Meallmore remains focused on strengthening care, connection and community impact. Supporting Age Scotland is one part of a wider commitment to advocacy, wellbeing and social responsibility.

Whether through charitable partnerships, community initiatives or everyday moments of care within its homes, Meallmore continues to work towards a shared goal: ensuring older people across Scotland feel supported, valued and connected.

In partnership with organisations like Age Scotland, that vision becomes stronger, broader and more impactful, reaching far beyond the walls of any single care home.
