Antonine House Skydive Raises Over £1,000

Two colleagues from Antonine House Care Home in Bearsden have taken fundraising to new heights after completing a charity skydive in support of Parkinson’s UK.

Activities Coordinator Kimberly and Care Assistant Shelby took on the challenge, raising more than £1,000 for the charity and creating a memorable day for residents, colleagues and everyone involved at the Glasgow care home.

The skydive took place at St Andrew’s airfield, where residents Sheena, Anne and Elizabeth joined colleagues Ainsley, Natalie, Annemarie and Mary to cheer them on. Their support helped make the day even more special, bringing the Antonine House community together for a shared experience full of nerves, excitement, encouragement and pride.

For Kimberly and Shelby, the challenge was about more than completing a skydive. It was about raising awareness and supporting a cause that matters deeply to many people, including those living with Parkinson’s within Antonine House Care Home.

Taking on a challenge for an important cause

Jumping out of a plane is not something most people would describe as a normal day at work. For Kimberly and Shelby, it meant facing nerves, stepping out of their comfort zones and taking on something they will never forget.

In the weeks leading up to the skydive, both colleagues felt the nerves build, but they stayed focused on the reason behind the challenge: raising money and awareness for Parkinson’s UK.

Speaking after the skydive, Kimberly described the experience as amazing and unforgettable. She said that although they were nervous beforehand, they remained focused on supporting a charity that helps so many people living with Parkinson’s, including people connected to Antonine House.

She added that the skydive itself was “unreal” and shared how proud she felt of them both for going ahead with the challenge and raising such an impressive amount for Parkinson’s UK.

It is that combination of courage, care and purpose that made the fundraiser so meaningful. This was not simply about ticking off a personal challenge. It was about doing something bold to support others.

Residents at the heart of the day

One of the most special parts of the day was having residents there to support Kimberly and Shelby.

Residents from Antonine House made the trip to St Andrew’s airfield to watch the skydive and cheer them on. Their presence brought real encouragement and added an emotional element to the day.

For residents, it was a chance to be part of something exciting and uplifting. For Kimberly and Shelby, seeing familiar faces there to support them helped turn a nerve-wracking challenge into a shared moment of pride.

At Meallmore, meaningful activity is about much more than filling time. It is about connection, community and creating moments that residents can enjoy, remember and feel part of.

This fundraiser showed that beautifully.

The residents were not simply watching from the sidelines. They were part of the story. Their encouragement, smiles and excitement helped give Kimberly and Shelby an extra boost before they took the leap.

Supporting Parkinson’s UK

Parkinson’s UK is a charity that provides vital support, information and services for people living with Parkinson’s, as well as their families, friends and carers.

Around 13,000 people in Scotland have a diagnosis of Parkinson’s, with many living with more advanced Parkinson’s and managing complex symptoms.

For Antonine House, supporting Parkinson’s UK felt especially meaningful. The charity’s work connects closely with the experiences of people living in care homes and the families who support them.

By raising over £1,000, Kimberly and Shelby have made a real contribution to the charity’s work. Every donation helps support research, advice, care and awareness, making a difference to people living with Parkinson’s across Scotland and beyond.

The total raised is a brilliant achievement and a reflection of the generosity of everyone who sponsored, encouraged and supported the challenge.

A proud moment for Antonine House Care Home

Antonine House Care Home Manager June said the whole team could not be prouder of Kimberly and Shelby.

From the moment they signed up, the journey was filled with excitement, nerves, determination and courage. Seeing residents and colleagues come together to support them made the experience even more meaningful.

June said it was incredibly special to have residents and colleagues there on the day, cheering them on and sharing in such an inspiring moment. Watching Kimberly and Shelby land safely after completing the skydive was an emotional and proud moment for everyone involved.

She also praised the amount raised for Parkinson’s UK, calling it an incredible achievement for such a worthy cause.

The skydive is a perfect example of the spirit found at Antonine House. It shows colleagues going above and beyond, not only in their daily roles, but in the ways they support the wider community and causes close to the hearts of residents and families.

More than fundraising

Charitable efforts like this are an important part of life across all our Meallmore care homes in Scotland.

They bring people together. They create conversation. They connect residents, colleagues, families and local communities around a shared purpose.

At Antonine House, this skydive became more than a fundraising challenge. It became a moment of pride for the whole home.

It showed courage from Kimberly and Shelby.

It showed support from residents and colleagues.

It showed the strength of the Antonine House community.

And it showed what can happen when people decide to do something remarkable for a cause they care about.

Fundraising in care homes can sometimes begin with a simple idea. A coffee morning. A raffle. A sponsored walk. Or, in this case, a skydive.

But the impact can be significant.

These moments help shine a light on the values at the heart of great care: kindness, connection, community and the willingness to make a difference.

Their skydive for Parkinson’s UK was brave, generous and full of heart. Raising over £1,000 is an outstanding achievement, but the wider impact goes beyond the total.

It brought residents together.

It gave colleagues something to rally behind.

It raised awareness for Parkinson’s UK.

And it created a story that everyone at Antonine House can feel proud of.

A huge well done to Kimberly and Shelby for taking on the challenge, and thank you to everyone who donated, supported and cheered them on.

From all of us at Meallmore, congratulations to the Antonine House team on a fantastic achievement.
