Meallmore Residents Support Cash for Kids Day

Residents, colleagues and families across Meallmore care homes came together for a day of fundraising, music, quizzes and community spirit in support of Cash for Kids Day.

Held on 30 April, Cash for Kids Day saw thousands of businesses, communities and supporters across the UK raise funds to help improve the lives of children living in poverty. This year’s campaign also included The World’s Biggest Music Quiz, an official GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ attempt for the largest online quiz ever held.

Meallmore homes were proud to get involved, helping raise over £700 across the Central West region, while creating a day full of fun, connection and meaningful moments for residents.

Fundraising with heart, music and plenty of laughter

Across participating Meallmore homes, residents and colleagues embraced the day with enthusiasm, planning a wide range of activities to raise as much as possible for a cause that makes a real difference in local communities.

From silent discos and afternoon tea events to fancy dress, garden quizzes, raffles and music-themed activities, homes were filled with laughter, singing and plenty of good-natured competition.

The focus was simple: to have fun while supporting children and families who need help most.

At Kelvinside Manor Care Home in Glasgow’s West End, residents started the day with a silent disco, complete with dancing, singing and fun props. The atmosphere brought plenty of smiles and energy, showing just how powerful music can be in bringing people together.

At Mearns House Care Home in Newton Mearns, residents and colleagues made the most of the sunshine with a big garden quiz, fancy dress, singing, party drinks and snacks. It was a brilliant way to enjoy the outdoors while supporting the national music quiz campaign.

Meanwhile, at Antonine House Care Home in Bearsden, the music quiz was paired with a delicious afternoon tea and a well-supported raffle, helping raise funds while creating a warm and sociable afternoon for residents, families and colleagues.

Supporting children in local communities

Every pound raised through Cash for Kids stays local, helping provide practical support to children and families who are facing hardship.

Funds raised through Cash for Kids Day will support children who may be at risk during the long summer break, helping provide access to meals, safe activities and community support when it is needed most.

For Meallmore, supporting Cash for Kids is about more than fundraising. It reflects the strong community spirit within our homes and the desire of residents and colleagues to make a positive difference beyond the care home environment.

By taking part, residents were able to enjoy a fun and meaningful day while contributing to a cause that supports young people and families in their own local areas.

A proud moment for Kelvinside Manor

Meallmore homes have continued to build a strong relationship with Cash for Kids through recent fundraising initiatives, including festive activity and Mission Christmas support.

Speaking about the day, Paula Ritchie, Care Home Manager at Kelvinside Manor Care Home, said:

“We’re regular supporters of Cash for Kids as it’s such a worthy cause, with every penny raised going directly to children who need it most in our local area.
“Earlier this year, some of our residents went along to present the team with a cheque following a Christmas fundraiser and to give a wave to lovely George while the breakfast show was live on air. So when we heard about the activity day and the world record attempt, we just had to get involved.
“It was a fantastic day with plenty of singing and dancing. We couldn’t be prouder of everyone who took part.”

The day was another example of how residents continue to play an active role in community life, supporting causes close to home while enjoying shared experiences together.

Cash for Kids thanks Meallmore homes

Cash for Kids also recognised the efforts of Meallmore residents and colleagues across the West of Scotland.

Ciara Robertson, Charity Manager at Cash for Kids, said:

“We are so grateful to Meallmore for their continued support, throughout Mission Christmas and now for our Cash for Kids Day campaign. Six care homes across the West of Scotland took part in fundraising activities, including a silent disco at Kelvinside Manor which we were proud to visit.
“This kind of fundraising is so valuable to us, and with every pound raised staying local, Meallmore is helping to fight child poverty within their own communities. This funding will go directly to supporting disadvantaged children to receive food and activities during the summer holidays, which they otherwise would not have access to.”

Community at the heart of life in our homes

Life in a Meallmore home is about more than care alone. It is about connection, purpose, community and finding ways for residents to remain involved in the wider world around them.

Events like Cash for Kids Day show the power of bringing people together around a shared cause. They create opportunities for residents to take part in something meaningful, support local families, enjoy social activity and make memories along the way.

Whether through fundraising, volunteering, intergenerational work or local partnerships, Meallmore homes continue to strengthen their links with the communities they are part of.

As Meallmore celebrates its 40th year in business, this commitment to community remains central to who we are. With 27 homes across Scotland and three new homes in development, Meallmore continues to focus on delivering excellent care in great places to live and work, while making a positive impact in the areas we serve.

Cash for Kids Day was a fantastic example of that commitment in action.

A huge thank you to everyone who took part, donated, supported and helped make the day such a success.
