Why we publish these
Choosing a care home is one of the hardest decisions a family makes, and it is usually made quickly, under pressure, on the strength of a website and a single visit. We think the most useful thing we can give you is not another list of facilities but the words of people who already live in our homes and the families who chose them.
Every story on this page is published with the written consent of the person named, or their welfare attorney or nearest relative. Nothing is scripted for us and nothing is ghost-written. If someone changes their mind, we take the story down.
If you would rather see the day-to-day picture first, Life at Meallmore sets out how our homes run - the food, the activities, the care team - and our guides answer the practical questions about cost, funding and choosing a home in Scotland.
What makes a home
The things residents tell us matter most
Being known
The care team knowing how you take your tea, which chair is yours, and who to call when you have had a difficult night. Small things, and the ones people mention first.
Keeping your own routine
Getting up when you want to, keeping your own GP where you can, having your own furniture and photographs around you, and carrying on with the things you have always done.
Staying part of things
Family welcome without an appointment, links with the local community, and a week that has something in it worth getting up for.
Feeling safe
Trained nurses and carers on site, care that adapts as needs change, and the reassurance that comes with knowing nobody has to move again as things change.
