Why Meallmore
Care that feels like home
Forthland Lodge is a proper Edinburgh home - handsome grounds, big bright rooms, chef-cooked meals using Scottish produce, and a team that knows every resident by name. Private en-suite rooms residents personalise, landscaped gardens they can actually use, and daily activities shaped around each person's interests. Our team works closely with the Royal Infirmary discharge planners to make moves from hospital as smooth as possible, and we welcome families to visit any day of the week.

A short guide
How to choose a care home in Edinburgh
Choosing a care home in Edinburgh usually starts with the type of care needed - residential, nursing, dementia or respite - and the part of the city that suits the family. Distance from a son or daughter's door matters more than people expect; a home 15 minutes away will typically see many more visits than one across the city. Read the Care Inspectorate report carefully rather than only looking at the top-line grades - the wording gives you a real sense of how each home is run. Visit at least twice, once ideally unannounced, and notice how staff speak with residents, whether people look comfortable and engaged, and how the home smells and sounds. Ask what a typical day looks like, whether the person's routines and preferences can be kept, and how meals, activities and visiting work in practice. Ask about links with the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, NHS Lothian community teams and local GPs. Above all, trust the atmosphere - a warm, well-run home usually feels right within the first ten minutes.

Forthland Lodge offers residential, nursing, dementia and respite care. Weekly fees vary by room type and level of care - we price each stay individually after a short assessment. Scotland's Free Personal Care contribution of £260.30/week and, where nursing is needed, Free Nursing Care of £117.10/week come off the total; a family top-up may bridge any remaining gap. We accept City of Edinburgh Council placements with these contributions factored in. See our funding guide for the full picture.
Yes - respite is available at Forthland Lodge subject to availability and a short assessment.
