Choosing a care home is an important decision, and at Greenan Manor we want residents and families to feel listened to, informed and supported from their first conversation with us.

Greenan Manor Care Home is situated in Doonfoot, around three miles from the centre of Ayr. Opened in January 2021, the modern purpose-built home provides nursing care, dementia care, residential care, short-stay respite care and palliative care within a calm and welcoming coastal setting.

Our experienced colleagues take time to understand each resident as an individual. This includes their health and care needs, preferred routines, interests, relationships, personal history and the things that help them feel comfortable and secure. Personalised care plans allow support to be shaped around the resident and reviewed as their circumstances change.

The home has 52 en-suite bedrooms alongside comfortable living areas, spacious dining rooms, activity spaces, quiet areas, a cinema room, hair and beauty salon, cafe areas and a private dining room. Residents can choose from a variety of spaces in which to relax, enjoy meals, take part in activities or spend time with family and friends.

Greenan Manor has been designed to make the most of its Doonfoot location. Large windows, patio doors, terraces and landscaped gardens help connect the home with its surroundings and views across Ayr Bay. Some ground-floor bedrooms have direct patio access, while some first-floor rooms include private balconies. These features are available in selected rooms only.

Person-centred care in Ayr

Every resident at Greenan Manor is supported as an individual. Care begins by listening to the resident and, where appropriate, the people who know them best. This helps our colleagues understand the person's health needs, routines, preferences, interests and what gives them comfort or reassurance.

Care should protect dignity and wellbeing while helping each resident maintain choice and as much independence as possible. Greenan Manor provides a broad range of support, including 24-hour nursing care, dementia care, residential care, respite care and palliative care. This range allows support to be shaped around different circumstances and reviewed as individual needs develop.

Families are an important part of personalised care. Where appropriate, relatives are kept informed and involved in decisions so that support remains responsive to the person and their wishes.

Nursing and dementia care shaped around the individual

Greenan Manor provides 24-hour nursing care for residents who require ongoing clinical support from qualified nurses. Individual care is planned around each person's health needs, medication, mobility, routines, preferences and overall wellbeing. The aim is to provide appropriate support within surroundings that remain comfortable, familiar and homely.

The home also provides compassionate care for people living with dementia and related conditions. Support recognises the resident as an individual beyond their diagnosis, taking account of their identity, life story, communication style and familiar routines. Reassurance, respectful communication and meaningful engagement are important parts of daily dementia care, and residents are supported to remain involved in everyday decisions and activities in ways that feel appropriate for them.

Residential care and everyday support

Residential care at Greenan Manor is available for older people who may no longer feel able to live independently but do not require continuous nursing care. Residents can receive personalised support with aspects of everyday living while benefiting from companionship, nutritious meals, comfortable accommodation and the reassurance that colleagues are available when needed.

Support reflects the individual's abilities and preferences rather than taking over tasks they can still manage themselves. Residents are encouraged to make choices about their daily routine, where they spend their time, what activities they join and how their bedroom is personalised. The aim is to balance dependable support with the freedom to continue living life in a way that feels familiar and meaningful.

Respite care and short stays

Greenan Manor provides short-stay respite care for people who need temporary support. A respite stay may be appropriate following illness or a hospital admission, while a family carer takes a break, or when someone would like to experience life in a care home before considering a longer-term move.

Care during a short stay is shaped around the individual's needs, routines and preferences. Residents receiving respite care can access the home's care, meals, activities and facilities during their stay. Availability and suitability should always be discussed directly with the home before arrangements are made.

Palliative care with dignity and compassion

Greenan Manor provides palliative and end-of-life care for residents living with life-limiting conditions. Support focuses on comfort, dignity, quality of life and compassionate care for both the resident and the people closest to them.

Greenan Manor has 52 en-suite bedrooms designed to give residents a comfortable and personal space of their own. Rooms include modern furnishings and amenities, with space for photographs, decorations and familiar belongings that help residents feel more at home.

Some ground-floor bedrooms benefit from direct access to patio areas, and some first-floor bedrooms include private balconies and scenic outlooks. These features are available in selected rooms and are not standard across all 52 bedrooms. Large windows and patio doors throughout the home bring natural light into the building and create a connection with the landscaped gardens and coastal surroundings.

Greenan Manor includes a range of comfortable shared spaces where residents can spend time in ways that suit them. Living, dining and activity areas provide opportunities for conversation, meals, hobbies and social events, while quieter spaces are available for residents who prefer time to themselves or a calmer environment.

The cinema room gives residents a dedicated space to enjoy films, and the hair and beauty salon helps people maintain familiar personal-care routines within the home. Indoor and outdoor cafe areas provide further places to enjoy refreshments and conversation with other residents, relatives and friends. The private dining room can be used for special occasions and more intimate meals with family members.
