Kincaid House Care Home is located in Greenock, Inverclyde, with views across the River Clyde and towards the surrounding landscape. The home provides nursing care, dementia care and short-stay respite care within a comfortable and welcoming environment.

With 90 bedrooms, Kincaid House is one of Meallmore's larger homes. It is thoughtfully organised into three smaller care units, each with familiar communal spaces where residents can enjoy meals, activities, time with visitors or quieter moments. This helps create a more homely atmosphere within the larger building.

Our experienced colleagues take time to understand each resident as an individual. This includes their health and care needs, routines, interests, relationships, communication preferences, personal history and the things that help them feel comfortable. Personalised care plans allow support to be shaped around the individual and reviewed as needs change.

Residents have access to fully furnished en-suite bedrooms, six lounge and dining areas, three reading rooms, activity and reminiscence spaces and a hairdressing salon. Landscaped gardens and decking provide additional places to enjoy fresh air and time outdoors.

Care shaped around each resident

Care at Kincaid House begins by listening to the resident and, where appropriate, the people who know them best. Our colleagues take time to understand the person's health needs, routines, abilities, preferences and the support that helps them feel secure and comfortable.

Kincaid House provides nursing care, specialist dementia care and short-stay respite care. Individual care plans help ensure that support remains personal and responsive rather than expecting every resident to follow the same routine. Families are an important part of personalised care, and where appropriate relatives are kept informed and involved as care requirements develop.

Nursing care in Greenock

Kincaid House provides 24-hour care for residents who require ongoing nursing support or assistance with more complex health needs. Qualified nurses and care colleagues work together to understand each person's health, medication, mobility, routines and preferences.

Visiting podiatry, physiotherapy and dietetic support are available as part of the home's wider care facilities. Care supports comfort and wellbeing while helping residents remain involved in decisions about their daily lives wherever possible.

Dedicated dementia care

Kincaid House has a dedicated care unit for people living with dementia and provides support throughout different stages of the dementia journey. Care is shaped around the individual rather than solely around their diagnosis. Understanding the resident's life story, identity, communication style, routines and preferences helps colleagues provide more meaningful and reassuring support.

Familiar surroundings, compassionate communication and purposeful daily activity can all help residents feel more secure and connected. The smaller care-unit structure also helps create familiar spaces and relationships within the wider home. Kincaid House received the Scottish Care Award for Dementia Service of the Year in 2014.

Three smaller care communities

Although Kincaid House has 90 beds, the home is organised across three distinct floors and care units. Each unit includes comfortable living, dining and activity spaces, helping residents become familiar with the colleagues, shared areas and other people within their part of the home.

This structure creates smaller communities within the larger building and helps daily life feel more personal and homely. Residents can choose whether they would like to socialise with others, enjoy meals in a shared setting, take part in an activity or spend quieter time in their bedroom or one of the reading rooms.

Comfortable en-suite bedrooms

Kincaid House offers fully furnished en-suite bedrooms designed to give residents a comfortable and personal space of their own. Rooms include television, Wi-Fi and access to tea and coffee services. Laundry and domestic services support the everyday upkeep of bedrooms and shared areas.

Residents are encouraged to personalise their room with suitable photographs, decorations and familiar belongings, subject to available space and the home's usual safety requirements. A private bedroom provides a place to rest, receive visitors or enjoy quieter time away from the communal areas.

Reading, activities and meaningful daily life

Meaningful activity is an important part of life at Kincaid House. Activities reflect residents' interests, abilities, routines and previous experiences rather than following a one-size-fits-all programme.

The home has activity and reminiscence rooms alongside three reading rooms with a range of books. These provide different opportunities for engagement, conversation, hobbies and quieter individual interests. Previous examples include animal interactions and visits from a local nursery. Residents can choose whether they wish to join group activities, spend time with visitors, enjoy reading or relax more quietly.

Food, dining and everyday comfort

Enjoyable and nutritious food is an important part of residents' health, comfort and daily routine. Kincaid House has six lounge and dining areas across its three smaller care units, allowing residents to enjoy meals within more familiar parts of the home.

Individual dietary requirements and preferences are considered as part of each resident's care and daily routine, with dietetic input available where appropriate. Residents are supported to make choices about their meals and where they would prefer to eat whenever this can be safely accommodated. Tea and coffee services also help residents maintain familiar routines and enjoy refreshments throughout the day.

Landscaped gardens and River Clyde views

Kincaid House benefits from attractive landscaped gardens with decking, providing residents with places to enjoy fresh air and time outdoors. The Greenock setting offers views across the River Clyde and towards the surrounding mountains and landscape.

Residents may choose to relax outside, enjoy the garden with visitors or take part in appropriate seasonal activities when the weather allows. Outdoor access always reflects the resident's preferences, mobility and individual support needs.
