Meallmore Take the Biscuit Challenge 2021

Bake Off season is in full swing, and Meallmore care homes across the country have been competing for the coveted top ‘tier’ prize at this year’s Meallmore Take the Biscuit Challenge. The annual baking contest was open to all 26 Meallmore care homes in Scotland and featured four categories for care home staff and residents to show off their baking skills.

This year’s contestants put their culinary skills to the test by creating an extravagant range of showstopper biscuit bakes, each worthy of a Paul Hollywood handshake. With both staff and residents taking part, Take the Biscuit encouraged everyone at Meallmore to roll up their sleeves and get baking.

The winners for each category were announced by Gerry Hennessey after voting took place via the Meallmore Facebook page.

This year’s overall winners, Iris Garvie and Natasha Aitken form Antonine House were crowned Top of the Tin with their Mc Biscuit Meal. The incredible showstopper bake included lemon shortbread fries, white chocolate ganache dip, double chocolate biscuit patty and a toasted vanilla shortbread bun, paired with a homemade strawberry milkshake.

The competition opened on Friday 24th September as part of the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning from MacMillan Cancer Support, a charity close to the hearts of many at Meallmore.

A huge congratulations to all the Take the Biscuit Challenge 2021 winners. The categories are as follows:

Top of the tin, best overall biscuit – Antonine House, McBiscuit Meal

Crumbs all over, best resident decorated biscuit – Alderwood House, Custard Cream-inspired biscuit

Oh crumbs, best theme for biscuits chosen by residents – Bellaire Care Home, Braveheart themed biscuit

The cookie monster, biscuit with the most calories – Kincaid House, toffee apple custard biscuits at 220 calories per serving

Well done again to all of this year’s participants and winners for creating such a high standard of competition. Everyone deserved Star Baker!
