Meallmore is delighted to announce the appointment of Nicola Reid as the new Care Home Manager at Crimond House Care Home in Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire.
Nicola’s appointment marks a return to Meallmore, bringing with her over two decades of experience in nursing, leadership and service improvement, alongside a deep-rooted passion for delivering high-quality, person-centred care.
Her journey in care began in 2004, when she joined Meallmore’s Kynnaird House Care Home as a newly qualified nurse after completing her Nursing – Children and Young People degree at Robert Gordon University. While her early ambitions were focused on children’s nursing, Nicola quickly discovered her passion for working in elderly care - a decision that would shape the course of her career.
Over the next 18 years, Nicola built an impressive career at Kynnaird House, progressing through the ranks to become Clinical Lead. During this time, she developed a strong understanding of the complexities of care home environments, building trusted relationships with residents, families and colleagues alike.
After leaving Kynnaird House in 2021, Nicola expanded her experience further by joining the Care Home Support Team in Aberdeenshire, where she worked as a Senior Care Home Support Nurse for three and a half years.
In this role, Nicola supported care homes across the region, providing training, guidance and hands-on support to teams where it was most needed. This experience allowed her to deepen her expertise in quality improvement, regulatory standards and Care Inspectorate requirements, while also gaining a broader perspective on the challenges and opportunities facing the care sector.
Her work in this role did not go unnoticed. Just six months after joining, Nicola was nominated for the prestigious Queen’s Nurse Development Programme, delivered by the Queen’s Nursing Institute Scotland (QNIS).
The programme, which is offered to a select group of nurses and midwives each year, focuses on leadership, community care and innovation. For Nicola, it was a defining moment in her career.
Reflecting on her journey, Nicola shared:
“The work I did with the Queen’s Nurse Development Programme had a profound impact on me. It really cemented that care homes are where my heart is and encouraged me to progress with my career.”
Now, as she returns to Meallmore to take on the leadership of Crimond House Care Home, Nicola brings with her not only extensive experience, but also a renewed sense of purpose.
“When this leadership position became available back at Meallmore in my local area, it was just the perfect opportunity that I couldn’t let pass me by. It’s especially timely as I complete my degree, which is focused on leadership and quality development.”
Nicola is currently in the final stages of completing a top-up degree at Robert Gordon University, further strengthening her expertise in leadership and continuous improvement.
Located in Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire, Crimond House Care Home is a welcoming, purpose-built home providing high-quality residential care, nursing care, dementia care and respite care.
The home is known for its warm, supportive environment and strong sense of community, where residents are encouraged to maintain their independence while receiving the care and support they need.
Nicola’s appointment marks an exciting new chapter for the home, as Meallmore continues to invest in leadership, development and high standards of care across its homes in Scotland.
For Nicola, returning to Meallmore was about more than just career progression - it was about values.
“It’s so lovely to be back in the Meallmore family. I enjoyed my time as a care home support nurse, but I missed regular close resident interaction and being part of a bigger team. I was ready for my next challenge.”
“Meallmore’s values really align with what I feel is important, and this is one of the key reasons why I came back. Everyone has been so supportive.”
At Meallmore, care is guided by a commitment to creating great places to live and work, where residents feel valued, supported and at home, and where colleagues are encouraged to grow and develop in their roles.
Nicola’s experience, combined with her passion for person-centred care, staff development and continuous improvement, makes her ideally placed to lead Crimond House into its next phase.
With a strong focus on leadership, training and quality improvement, Nicola is excited to bring her learning into practice.
“During the Queen’s Nurse Development Programme, we did a lot of work on person-centred care and staff training, and I’m really excited to put this into practice and see the positive impact on both residents and colleagues at Crimond.”
Her vision aligns closely with Meallmore’s wider approach - ensuring that care homes are not just places where people are supported, but places where they can truly live well.
By investing in people, supporting teams and continually improving standards, Meallmore continues to strengthen its position as one of Scotland’s leading care providers.
