Life at
Daviot Care Home
Choosing a care home is an important decision, and at Daviot we want residents and families to feel listened to, informed and supported from their first conversation with us.
Daviot Care Home is situated in the Scottish Highlands, within reach of Inverness while enjoying the peace and tranquillity of a countryside setting. The home provides nursing care, dementia care and short-stay respite care within a distinctive historic building that has been carefully transformed for modern care.
Our experienced colleagues take time to understand each resident as an individual. This includes their health and care requirements, preferred routines, interests, relationships, personal history and the things that help them feel comfortable and secure. Individual care plans allow support to be shaped around the resident and reviewed as their circumstances change.
With 94 bedrooms, Daviot is one of Meallmore's larger care homes. However, the home is divided into four specialist units, helping create smaller communities with their own familiar spaces and a more homely atmosphere.
Residents have access to fully furnished en-suite bedrooms, including a number of large dual-aspect deluxe rooms. Across the home, 13 lounge and dining areas provide a choice of places to enjoy meals, take part in activities, spend time with visitors or relax more quietly.
The activity and reminiscence room and easily accessible secure gardens offer opportunities for meaningful daily living, familiar routines and personal choice, with a hairdresser available upon request.
Personalised care in a Highland setting
Every resident at Daviot is supported as an individual. Our approach begins with listening to the resident and, where appropriate, the people who know them best. This helps our colleagues understand the person's health needs, communication preferences, routines, interests and the support that helps them feel safe and comfortable.
Daviot provides 24-hour nursing care for residents affected by general frailty and for people whose health needs require support from qualified nurses. Care promotes comfort and wellbeing while helping residents retain as much choice and independence as possible.
The home also provides specialist support for people living with dementia. Familiar routines, compassionate communication, reassurance and meaningful engagement are important parts of this approach. Some specialist units also support residents living with mental health conditions as part of Daviot's wider specialist-unit provision.
A historic home with a distinctive story
Daviot's building has a fascinating history that gives the home a character of its own. It was originally built as a hunting lodge for Clan Macintosh and has historical associations with Edward VII.
In later years, the property became known as a hotel in the Inverness area before being transformed into a care home under Meallmore's ownership. Today, its historic character is combined with modern care facilities and comfortable living spaces.
The countryside surroundings create a peaceful environment, while accessible transport links help relatives and friends stay connected with the people who live here. This balance between a quieter Highland location and access to Inverness is an important part of Daviot's identity.
Comfortable rooms and smaller home communities
Daviot offers fully furnished en-suite bedrooms where residents can enjoy a comfortable and personal space of their own. A number of large dual-aspect deluxe rooms are also available. Bedrooms include television and Wi-Fi, and residents are encouraged to bring suitable photographs, decorations and treasured possessions to make their surroundings feel familiar, subject to the home's usual safety requirements.
Although Daviot has 94 beds, its four specialist units divide the home into smaller communities. This helps residents become familiar with the colleagues, shared areas and other residents within their part of the home.
There are 13 lounge and dining areas across Daviot, giving residents a variety of spaces in which to spend their day. Residents may choose to enjoy meals with others, join an activity, welcome visitors or find a quieter place to relax. Laundry and domestic services support the everyday comfort and upkeep of residents' rooms and shared spaces.
Activities, interests and independence
Meaningful activity is an important part of life at Meallmore. Daviot's activities programme responds to residents' interests, abilities, preferences and past experiences rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach. Residents can choose whether they wish to join group activities, continue individual hobbies, spend time with visitors or enjoy a quieter day.
The activity and reminiscence room provides a dedicated space for conversation, familiar experiences and activities that can help residents remain engaged with their interests and personal memories. A hairdresser is available upon request to help residents maintain familiar personal-care routines within the home.
Our aim is to provide opportunities without pressure, recognising that independence also means having control over how each day is spent.
Food, gardens and everyday wellbeing
Nutritious food is an important part of residents' health, comfort and enjoyment of daily life. Meals at Daviot support individual dietary requirements, preferences and care needs. Residents have access to 13 lounge and dining areas, allowing meals to be enjoyed within smaller and more familiar parts of the home.
Outside, Daviot has an easily accessible secure garden with planted areas. The garden gives residents opportunities to enjoy fresh air, appreciate the changing seasons and spend time with relatives and friends when the weather allows.
The peaceful countryside surroundings contribute to the calm character of the home, while the secure outdoor environment supports residents to enjoy time outside safely.

Helen Thom · Home Manager
“One of the things I love most about my role is being able to spend time with residents while also leading the home and creating a safe, secure environment where people can enjoy fulfilling lives.
My focus is on making sure that every resident feels respected, listened to and supported. We want people living at Daviot to maintain as much independence as possible, with the reassurance that our colleagues are here whenever additional care or assistance is needed.
Daviot is very much part of its local community. Many of our residents have connections to the surrounding area, and many of our colleagues also live nearby. This helps create a familiar and homely atmosphere throughout the home.
Relatives and friends are an important part of life at Daviot, and we want them to feel welcomed and involved. Strong relationships between residents, families and colleagues help us create a supportive community where people feel they belong.
I am also committed to creating a positive working environment where our colleagues feel supported and appreciated for the important work they do. When colleagues feel confident and valued, they are better able to provide the thoughtful and personalised care our residents deserve.”
