Meallmore Chief Executive Officer Cillian Hennessey has been named a finalist in the HealthInvestor Power List 2026, marking a second consecutive year of national recognition for his leadership in health and social care.

The HealthInvestor Power List celebrates effective, inspiring and influential people working across healthcare and social care, including senior leaders, investors and advisers helping shape the future of the sector.

The 2026 finalists will be celebrated at the London Marriott Grosvenor Square on 3 December.

For Meallmore, Cillian's inclusion comes at an important point in the organisation's story.

Scotland's largest family-owned care provider is approaching four decades in business, with three new care homes in development and a continued focus on providing excellent care in great places to live and work.

A second year of national recognition

Cillian was also named as a finalist in the HealthInvestor Power List in 2025, when he was recognised in the Elderly Care Leader category.

That category celebrates owners and directors responding to the growing need for older people's care while continuing to innovate within an established and increasingly important sector.

Being recognised for a second year reflects both continuity and momentum within Meallmore.

Cillian joined the family business in 2010, initially working as an Area Manager before becoming a director and later Commercial Director.

In 2023, he took over the leadership of Meallmore from his uncle, Gerry Hennessey, becoming the second generation of the family to lead the organisation.

Since then, the business has continued to grow while maintaining its family ownership, Scottish roots and focus on personalised care.

Almost 40 years of family-owned care

Meallmore opened its first nursing home in 1987 at Meallmore Lodge in Daviot, just south of Inverness.

From that single Highland home, the Hennessey family has built a nationwide Scottish care provider, supported by more than 2,200 colleagues.

The organisation remains headquartered in Inverness, with decisions still made in Scotland and the founding family continuing to guide its future.

As Meallmore approaches its 40th anniversary in 2027, its purpose remains unchanged: to provide high-quality, personalised care in homes where residents feel safe, respected and genuinely at home.

Today, Meallmore provides residential, nursing, dementia, palliative, respite and specialist adult care across Scotland.

Three new care homes for Scotland

The Power List recognition comes as Meallmore progresses one of the most significant growth programmes in its history.

Three purpose-built care homes are currently being developed in Aberdeen, Broughty Ferry and Clarkston, taking Meallmore's portfolio from 27 operating homes to 30.

Together, the developments will provide 169 new bedrooms and create new care, nursing, hospitality, management and support roles across their local communities.

Pitfodels Wood, Aberdeen

Pitfodels Wood Care Home is preparing to open on North Deeside Road in early 2027.

The 65-bedroom home sits within the Pitfodels Conservation Area, close to Cults and Aberdeen's West End.

It will provide nursing, dementia, residential and respite care in a purpose-built environment designed around comfort, dignity and individual choice.

Residents will have access to private en-suite bedrooms, selected balconies, landscaped gardens, accessible woodland walkways, lounges, a café, cinema room, salon and restaurant-style dining spaces.

Sutherland House, Broughty Ferry

Sutherland House Care Home is a £14 million development on Dalhousie Road in Broughty Ferry.

Due to open in spring 2027, the home will provide residential, nursing and dementia care across 54 private en-suite bedrooms.

The development will also create around 60 to 70 full-time equivalent jobs, with opportunities across nursing, care, hospitality, administration and management.

Eaglesham House, Clarkston

Eaglesham House will become Meallmore's 30th care home when it opens in Clarkston, East Renfrewshire, in spring 2027.

The £15 million, 50-bedroom development will provide 24-hour nursing and specialist dementia care while creating around 80 full-time equivalent jobs.

It will also strengthen Meallmore's existing presence across Greater Glasgow and West Scotland, where the organisation already has long-standing relationships with residents, families and local communities.

Growing with purpose

For Meallmore, expansion is not simply about adding more buildings.

Each development is intended to increase the availability of modern, high-quality care while creating employment, supporting local suppliers and building strong community connections.

The three new homes have been designed around the way people want to live, with private accommodation, welcoming shared spaces and facilities that support everyday choice, social connection and time with family.

They also reflect a wider commitment to future-proofing care provision in Scotland as demand continues to grow.

Leadership built around people

Cillian's approach has combined commercial growth with a continued focus on residents, families and colleagues.

Under his leadership, Meallmore has invested in new homes, colleague development, community partnerships and programmes designed to improve everyday life for residents.

The organisation's vision is to become Scotland's most trusted care provider, consistently delivering excellent care in great places to live and work.

Its C.A.R.E. values focus on creating kindness, acting with accountability, recognising the contribution of colleagues and engaging in continuous learning and improvement.

This balance between growth and culture is central to Meallmore's next chapter.

Carrying a family legacy forward

Meallmore was founded by Gerry and Aidan Hennessey, who opened the organisation's first home in the Highlands in 1987.

The transition to the second generation was carefully planned, allowing the business to retain the principles on which it was built while continuing to respond to the changing needs of social care.

Recognition for Scottish social care

Cillian's place on the HealthInvestor Power List brings national attention to leadership emerging from Scotland's independent care sector.

It also reflects the contribution family-owned providers continue to make by investing for the long term, building relationships locally and retaining a close connection between leadership and everyday care delivery.

For Meallmore, the recognition comes at a time of significant change and opportunity.

Three new homes are approaching completion.

The organisation is preparing to mark 40 years of family ownership.

And thousands of colleagues continue to deliver care across Scotland every day.

Being named on the Power List is an important moment.

The larger story is what Meallmore continues to build around it.

Congratulations to Cillian and to every colleague helping lead Meallmore into its next chapter.
