Greenan Manor in Doonfoot hosted a special celebration for resident Roy Campbell, honouring his lifelong contribution to the Scottish Rally Championship.

Greenan Manor Care Home in Ayr recently hosted a very special celebration to recognise resident Roy Campbell (also known as “Jack”), a prominent and much respected figure within the Scottish Rally Championship (SRC).
The private event brought together family, friends and members of the motorsport community to honour Roy’s remarkable contribution to rallying over more than five decades, and to celebrate awards recognising his dedication to supporting young people and the future of the sport.

To mark the occasion, a private dinner was arranged for Roy in Greenan Manor’s private dining room, creating the perfect setting for a warm and meaningful celebration.
Joining Roy for the day were:
The awards were presented during the celebration, with everyone taking time to reflect on Roy’s legacy and the impact he has had on the rally community.
Roy was a Navigator for the Scottish Rally Championship from 1970 until 2025 and also served as a former Chairman of the SRC. His career took him across the world, and he was proud to be part of the gravel crew for racing legend Colin McRae.
During the event, Roy was presented with a trophy from the Ecosse J1000 Challenge, recognising his unwavering dedication to the Junior Championship, alongside the Becksport People’s Champion Award, which he received together with Andy Kelly.
These awards celebrated not only Roy’s lifelong commitment to the sport, but also his determination to encourage young people, support the next generation of rally talent, and contribute through tireless fundraising efforts.

Roy’s rallying journey began with a moment of opportunity and quick thinking.
When he was just 18, Roy’s father introduced him to the Machar’s Car Club in the South West of Scotland, which supported a wide range of motorsport events. While helping to prepare a car at one of these events, a Navigator pulled out at the last moment, and Roy stepped in to fill the gap.
That spontaneous decision turned into the beginning of an extraordinary career that would span decades and leave a lasting mark on Scottish rallying.
Reflecting on the day, Roy shared how meaningful it was to celebrate in the setting of Greenan Manor:
“Winning this award meant so much to me and what made it even more special was celebrating at Greenan Manor. Sharing the moment in such a warm supportive environment made the achievement more memorable. It was a proud and heartfelt celebration in a place that feels like home. It was a lovely lunch and the craic was great.”
Greenan Manor Care Home Manager Joe Janikowski spoke about what a privilege it was to host the celebration and recognise such an incredible life story:
“This was a truly wonderful day, and we were so proud to host such an event in our private dining room. There was a great deal of laughter and a room full of smiles, and we all loved hearing more about Roy’s fascinating career and his passion for the sport. Our catering team put on a fantastic spread to make sure the event was as special as possible, and I’d like to thank the full team for enhancing this special moment. A huge congratulations to Roy – and to Andy – for these well-deserved awards!”
