Choosing a care home is an important decision, and at Pitfodels Wood we want prospective residents and families to feel informed, reassured and supported from their first conversation with us.

Opening in 2026, Pitfodels Wood Care Home is a new purpose-built 65-bed home on North Deeside Road in Aberdeen. Set within the Pitfodels Conservation Area and close to Cults and Aberdeen's West End, the home is being created to combine personalised care with comfortable, carefully designed surroundings.

Pitfodels Wood will provide nursing care, dementia care, residential care and short-stay respite care. Our colleagues will take time to understand each resident's health and care needs, routines, interests, relationships, communication preferences and the things that help them feel most comfortable.

Residents will have access to spacious private en-suite bedrooms, selected rooms with private balconies, elegant lounges, a cinema room, café, hair and beauty salon and restaurant-style dining spaces.

Landscaped gardens, accessible walkways, terraces, patios and raised flower beds will provide opportunities to enjoy fresh air, gentle movement, gardening and time with family and friends.

A landmark new care home in Pitfodels

Pitfodels Wood is being purpose-built to provide a high-quality care environment within one of Aberdeen's most distinctive residential settings. The home occupies a position on North Deeside Road within the Pitfodels Conservation Area, near the Marcliffe Hotel and within easy reach of Cults and Aberdeen's West End.

Its design brings together spacious private accommodation, comfortable social areas, hospitality-focused facilities and access to landscaped outdoor spaces. Although the surroundings are an important part of the home, care and residents' quality of life remain at the centre of everything we do.

Care shaped around every individual

Care at Pitfodels Wood will begin by listening to the resident and, where appropriate, the people who know them best. Our colleagues will take time to understand each person's health needs, abilities, preferred routines, communication, interests and personal history.

Individualised care plans will help ensure support feels personal rather than task-led and can adapt if the resident's health, circumstances or preferences change. The aim will be to provide dependable care while protecting dignity, identity, personal choice and as much independence as possible. Families will be an important part of this approach and should feel welcomed, informed and involved where appropriate.

Nursing care in Aberdeen

Pitfodels Wood will provide 24-hour nursing care for residents whose health needs require ongoing support from qualified nurses. Care will be personalised around each resident's health, medication, mobility, routines, communication preferences and overall wellbeing.

Nursing support may be appropriate for people living with long-term health conditions or those whose needs have become more complex. The purpose-built environment has been designed to allow nursing care to be delivered within surroundings that remain comfortable and homely rather than unnecessarily clinical. Regular input from GPs, physiotherapists and other relevant specialists may support residents where appropriate.

Dementia care designed around the person

Pitfodels Wood will provide personalised care for people living with dementia within a purpose-built and supportive environment. The design will use dementia-friendly principles intended to make spaces easier to understand and navigate.

Care will recognise each person beyond their diagnosis. Understanding the resident's identity, life story, familiar routines, relationships, communication preferences and interests will help colleagues provide more meaningful and reassuring support. Residents should remain involved in everyday decisions wherever possible, with support adapted around their abilities and preferences. Families can provide valuable insight into the resident's background and are welcomed as part of the care team.

Residential care and everyday support

Residential care at Pitfodels Wood will support older people who would benefit from assistance with everyday living but do not require continuous nursing care. Residents will be able to receive personalised support with daily routines within a comfortable and sociable home environment.

Support should promote independence rather than taking over tasks a resident can still manage safely. Residents will continue to make choices about their routine, meals, activities, visitors and how they spend their time. The home's lounges, café, cinema, salon, dining areas and gardens will offer opportunities for companionship while respecting residents' privacy and preference for quieter time.

Respite care and short stays

Pitfodels Wood will offer respite and short-stay care for people who require temporary support. A respite stay may be helpful following illness or surgery, while a family carer takes a break or when someone would like to experience life at the home before considering a longer-term move.

Care during a short stay will be personalised around the resident's health needs, routines, abilities and preferences. Residents staying for respite care will be able to access the home's meals, activities, communal spaces and facilities. Availability and suitability must always be discussed directly with the home before arrangements are confirmed.

Spacious en-suite bedrooms and selected balconies

Pitfodels Wood will provide 65 spacious private bedrooms with en-suite facilities. Rooms will include smart televisions, Wi-Fi, high-quality furnishings and a nurse-call system. Residents will be encouraged to personalise their bedroom with suitable photographs, decorations and familiar belongings, helping the space feel individual and comfortable.

Selected bedrooms will include private balconies, with relevant rooms benefiting from views towards the surrounding woodland or Deeside Valley. Balconies and particular outlooks are not standard across all 65 rooms - individual room requirements, features, availability and outlooks should always be discussed directly with the home.

Lounges, café and social spaces

Pitfodels Wood will include a choice of elegant lounges and comfortable shared spaces where residents can relax, socialise or spend time with visitors. The café will provide an informal setting for refreshments, conversation and family visits.

Residents who prefer quieter time will also be able to enjoy their own room or a less busy communal space. The range of environments is intended to support individual preferences rather than expecting everyone to spend their day in the same way.

Cinema room, salon and hospitality-led facilities

A cinema room will offer a comfortable setting for films, familiar programmes and shared entertainment. The hair and beauty salon will support wellbeing and confidence through appointments arranged within the home. Restaurant-style dining spaces will provide a welcoming environment for freshly prepared, nutritious meals with support for individual dietary requirements and seasonal menus.

Landscaped gardens and outdoor spaces

Landscaped gardens, safe and accessible walkways, outdoor terraces, patios and raised flower beds will provide opportunities to enjoy fresh air, gentle movement, gardening and time with family and friends. Relevant outdoor areas will benefit from views towards the surrounding woodland.

Our developing connection with Aberdeen

Community connection is intended to be an important part of Pitfodels Wood. Amanda Rennie has been developing relationships within the Aberdeen community, and the home has already built a connection with Aberdeen International School next door, whose pupils have helped name the home's households. Intergenerational links are planned as an ongoing part of life at Pitfodels Wood as it develops.
