New Specialist Care Facility in Falkirk

A new residential care facility has officially opened its doors in Falkirk for adults with mental health difficulties.

Located on Windsor Road, Willow Lodge provides specialist care for adults with enduring mental health needs to provide rehabilitation and assist their journey to recovery.

Leading care provider, Meallmore Ltd, welcomed its first resident to Willow Lodge on 13 July. The purpose-built, 32-bed care facility, including four self-contained apartments, offers a homely environment that meets all regulatory requirements.

The experienced management and nursing team at Willow Lodge are registered Mental Health Nurses. Meallmore has also appointed General Adult Nurses to ensure any additional complex physical health needs of residents are met. Meallmore has also appointed an in-house chef to prepare restaurant quality meals and assist residents in planning and cooking their own meals.

The remainder of the care team consists of experienced Mental Health Support Workers who assist with the provision of rehabilitation support, as well as a private sessional psychiatrist. The team will work in partnership with local multidisciplinary mental health teams to ensure the highest standard of ongoing psychiatric care.

Willow Lodge is led by the Manager, Tam McNamara, who brings a wealth of knowledge, skills and experience having worked in the mental health sector for 30 years. As a qualified social worker and Mental Health Officer (MHO), Tam has worked in a range of NHS and community-based multidisciplinary mental health teams in London and Falkirk, specialising in rehabilitation and community social work. Tam brings with him in-depth knowledge of various legislations such as the Mental Health (Care & Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003, Adults with Incapacity (Scotland) Act 2000 and the Adult Support and Protection (Scotland) Act.

Tam McNamara, Willow Lodge’s manager commented: “Willow Lodge will provide industry-leading mental health care, support and rehabilitation to individuals who require this service. There is a real need for specialised residential care facilities across Scotland to support people with complex mental health needs, and we are proud to open this new service in Falkirk. The new facility is a welcoming breath of fresh air for those who require the service to improve their quality of life.

“What has impressed me so far about Meallmore is the company’s dedication to investing in its staff. All staff at Willow Lodge have undergone weeks of stringent training to support residents with specific mental health needs. All of our staff are looking forward to greeting residents to Willow Lodge, and we are extremely grateful to the local community for their support on the new service and in particular the support from local GP practices and Community Mental Health Teams.”

Meallmore has been working closely with local mental health organisations including See Me Scotland, Scottish Association for Mental Health and local advocacy services, to help support the reduction of discrimination around mental ill-health.

Willow Lodge is the first Meallmore residential care facility to open in Falkirk and joins the existing successful Meallmore specialist mental health care facilities for residents with mental health difficulties and specialist care needs.
