In brief
Nursing care for families in Glasgow
Nursing care is the right level of support when health needs are beyond a residential home or a care package at home: complex medication, wounds, catheters, PEG feeding, advanced frailty, Parkinson's, stroke recovery or conditions that need clinical oversight rather than prompting.
All of our Glasgow area homes provide nursing care with registered nurses on site around the clock, and all are also registered for dementia and residential care.
For families, the practical benefit is continuity: the same team, the same room and the same friendships even when someone's health changes significantly.

The detail
What nursing care covers in our Glasgow homes
Nurses lead every shift, with care plans covering skin and pressure care, continence, nutrition, pain, mobility, falls and mental wellbeing, reviewed as things change.
We work alongside GP practices, district nurses, tissue viability, dietetics, speech and language therapy and the local palliative care teams so that specialist input comes to the resident.
Clinical care is only half of it. Meals are cooked in the home, families visit without appointments, and there is something happening most afternoons - residents consistently say that is what makes a place liveable.
Next steps
Arranging nursing care in Glasgow
Many placements begin at hospital discharge. With consent, the discharge team shares the assessment with us and we confirm whether we can safely meet those needs.
For planned moves, contact the relevant social work team - Glasgow City, East Dunbartonshire or East Renfrewshire - for a needs assessment, and a financial assessment if council funding may apply. Free nursing care contributions apply in Scotland.
Call us early even if you are only exploring. Knowing what is actually available in your area saves a great deal of time.

Important - please read
The information on this page is general guidance about care in Glasgow. It is not legal, financial or medical advice, and Meallmore cannot accept liability for decisions made on the basis of it.
- Always check your own position with a trained professional: your GP or healthcare team for anything health related, an independent regulated adviser for money, a solicitor for legal matters, and your local council for needs and financial assessments.
- In an emergency, or if someone's health is getting worse quickly, call 999. For urgent advice that is not an emergency, phone NHS 24 on 111. Please do not use this page in place of medical help.
- Care rates, thresholds and council policies change, and availability moves week to week, so confirm current figures and vacancies with us before relying on them.
None of this is a reason to put off asking for help. If you would like to talk it through with a team who do this every day, we are very happy to hear from you, and there is no obligation either way.
