Finding the right specialist care placement is an important decision, and at The Oaks we want residents, families and professionals to feel listened to, informed and supported from their first conversation with us.

The Oaks Care Home is a 33-bed specialist adult care home on Glasgow Road in Baillieston. We support adults living with mental health difficulties and complex support needs within a safe, welcoming and structured environment.

Our colleagues take time to understand each resident as an individual. This includes their experiences, strengths, health and support needs, routines, communication preferences, relationships and personal goals.

Individual support plans help ensure care is shaped around the person rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach. Residents are encouraged to remain involved in decisions about their daily lives and support wherever possible.

The home offers comfortable en-suite rooms, spacious lounges, shared kitchens, a cinema room, hair and beauty salon, an internal courtyard and secure landscaped gardens.

The Oaks also has four self-contained flats. For residents whose assessment, abilities and goals make this appropriate, these can provide a supported step towards greater independence while care and reassurance remain nearby.

Specialist adult care in Glasgow

The Oaks specialises in supporting adults living with mental health difficulties and complex support needs.

We understand that every resident has their own experiences, strengths, routines and goals. Support is therefore built around the individual rather than expecting everyone to follow the same pathway.

Our colleagues provide assistance with health and wellbeing, daily living, emotional support, social engagement and maintaining practical skills.

The aim is to help each resident feel safe, understood and more in control of their everyday life while receiving the level of support they need.

Every prospective placement is assessed individually so that the team can understand the person's needs, risks, preferences and goals and determine whether The Oaks is the right environment.

Supporting confidence and independence

A key part of life at The Oaks is helping residents build and maintain independence wherever possible.

Independence means something different to every person. It may involve making everyday choices, preparing a meal, attending an appointment, managing a familiar routine or spending more time within the local community.

Shared kitchens give residents opportunities to take part in cooking and practical daily tasks when this is appropriate to their support plan.

Our role is to provide the right level of assistance without unnecessarily taking over tasks a resident can manage safely.

Progress will be different for every individual, with support focused on personalised care, confidence and meaningful goals.

Four self-contained flats

The Oaks has four self-contained flats designed to support residents who may be ready for a greater level of independence.

The flats allow residents to experience more independent daily living while continuing to benefit from the reassurance of professional support nearby.

This may help someone practise routines, maintain practical skills and build confidence within a familiar environment.

A move into one of the flats is not automatic and should always depend on the resident's individual assessment, support plan, preferences and current availability.

24-hour nursing and structured support

The Oaks provides 24-hour nursing support as part of its wider Specialist Adult Care provision.

Care is shaped around each resident's mental and physical health, medication, communication, routines, emotional wellbeing and individual support needs.

A structured environment can provide stability and reassurance while allowing residents to make meaningful choices about their day.

Support plans are reviewed as needs, circumstances or personal goals change. Residents, families and relevant professionals may contribute where appropriate.

En-suite rooms and personal space

The Oaks offers comfortable en-suite rooms designed to support privacy, dignity and everyday comfort.

Rooms include Wi-Fi and television access, helping residents stay connected and maintain familiar routines.

Residents are encouraged to personalise their room with suitable photographs, decorations and familiar belongings, subject to available space and normal safety requirements.

A private room gives residents somewhere to rest, spend time independently or welcome visitors away from the busier shared areas.

Individual accommodation requirements and current availability are always best discussed directly with the home.

Shared kitchens, lounges and social spaces

Spacious lounges and shared living areas help create a sense of connection and community at The Oaks.

Residents can use these spaces to socialise, relax, take part in an activity or spend time with visiting family and friends.

Shared kitchens provide opportunities to prepare food or take part in familiar everyday routines when appropriate.

Residents who prefer quieter time can also relax in their own room or another calmer area of the home.

The balance of private, shared and practical living spaces helps residents follow routines that reflect their individual preferences and support plans.

Residents can enjoy films and activities in the cinema room, spend time in the lounges, use the shared kitchens or relax in the courtyard and landscaped gardens.

Where appropriate, residents can be supported to attend appointments, take part in local activities and engage with community life.

Meaningful activity should reflect the person's interests, abilities and goals. Participation always remains a matter of individual choice.

The cinema room provides a dedicated setting for films, entertainment, activities and shared social time.

The hair and beauty salon helps residents maintain familiar personal-care routines within the home.

These spaces are part of everyday wellbeing, confidence and personal identity rather than simply additional facilities.

Residents can always decide whether they wish to use them.

Courtyard and secure landscaped gardens

The Oaks has an internal courtyard and secure landscaped gardens where residents can enjoy fresh air and time outdoors.
